WAS TOO BIG TO FIT INTO THE SPACE AVAILABLE 13:34, 15 May 2023Updated 13:35, 15 May 2023 A bereaved family were furious after being told they couldn't intern a relative next to his

mother - because his coffin was too large. José Antonio was just 28-years-old when he died of complications during weight loss surgery, but despite his young age he had built up a 47-stone

frame. When he passed away, his family notified the funeral company and local authorities about his special requirements, and said they wanted him to rest in a niche, a walled cubicle, next

to his mother. But despite the advanced warning, the cemetery said they couldn't accommodate José, and the frustrated family were forced to wait for four hours for the fire department

to arrive and make the niche bigger. At the cemetery in Matagorda, Andalusia, Spain, firefighters chipped away at the sides of the niche with a hammer and chisel for over an hour until the

coffin squeezed inside. READ MORE: Estate agent who sold house for £6,000 in 1968 resells same home for staggering price Article continues below José's relatives, Ventura and Mónica,

spoke to local media, and said: "We informed them that it was a special case because the person weighed 300 kilos, but they did not understand it. "They told us to do what we

could, but they couldn't give us two niches. "Feeling angry, we went to the funeral home and they told us to either behave well or they would send us a couple of officers from the

police and Civil Guard. "We weren't asking for anything bad, we were only asking for a decent burial." During the funeral, they tried to put the coffin into the allocated

niche, but it would not fit. The family was told that they could inter José in another cemetery in a different town, but they refused. Relatives insisted that the man be buried next to his

recently deceased mother. After four hours of waiting, the problem was eventually resolved by the fire department. It is unclear if the family is looking to take legal action against the

local authorities for the distressing burial. Article continues below _DO YOU HAVE A STORY TO SELL? GET IN TOUCH WITH US AT [email protected]_ READ MORE: Speedo Mick reveals
