A British tourist who went missing for over a week after disappearing on a stag do has been found dead as police say he likely 'fell to his death' in a ravine. Scottish man Greg Monks, 38,
was last seen in Albufeira, Portugal.
Greg vanished in the early hours of last Wednesday morning. His parents and girlfriend flew to the country to help with the search.
A well-placed police source said: “There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man’s death was linked in any way to a crime." His cause of death is not yet known and an autopsy is set to
be carried out.
A Scottish man whose body has been found after he disappeared while on a stag do in Portugal paid a touching tribute to his girlfriend before his death.
Greg had been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Nicole Kelso, with first pictures of the pair appearing on social media in 2019. The Scot even made a public declaration of love to his
long-term partner on his Instagram profile, where he penned her name alongside a heart for all to see.

An autopsy is expected to be carried today following the death of Greg Monks.
The Brit is thought to have become disorientated whilst trying to get back to his hotel in Portugal after a night of heavy drinking with pals on a stag-do.
Eerie images have emerged of the neglected scrubland where Brit Greg Monk's body was found after he went missing from his friend's stag do in Portugal.
Sniffer dogs were dispatched to search the steep hillside below luxury villas in Cerro da Aguia near the party resort of Albufeira after a homeowner responded to an appeal by police and
Greg’s family to search cameras for images of him. CCTV revealed the 38-year-old plant mechanic from Glasgow jump over a wall after a night out and helped police narrow down the search for
him.
Greg’s sister had urged residents in the area to check home cameras and doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on Wednesday, May 28 after it emerged the last sighting of him had been in the
hill area dotted with large villas. A Portuguese police source revealed the CCTV supplied by the local homeowner had proved vital in the case.

Greg's body lay undiscovered for about a week, meaning it had started to decompose in the high temperatures. A well-placed police source previously said: "There is nothing at this stage to
indicate this man’s death was linked in any way to a crime. But we need to wait for the autopsy results to conclude that is the case."
They added: "Our belief is he lost all notion of where he was after drinking heavily and finding himself in an unfamiliar place, and that he jumped over a wall and fell to his death. The
body was already in a state of decomposition when it was found."
Greg Monks was seen in a tragic last picture before he vanished during a stag do in Portugal. The 38-year-old, from Cambuslang near Glasgow, disappeared last Tuesday evening just hours after
he touched down in the Algarve with his pals.

Tributes have flooded in for Greg, who has been hailed as a "lovely guy".

Greg Monks' body has been found at the bottom of a ravine, police announced.
Police said there is no evidence to suggest his death is suspicious and added they were waiting for an autopsy.
A source within the police said: "There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man's death was linked in any way to a crime. But we need to wait for the autopsy results to conclude that

Greg disappeared after the first night of the stag do. He was last seen on CCTV in the residential area of Cerro de Aguia, located roughly four miles away from the main club and bar strip of
Albufeira, on Tuesday 27 May
His sister Jillian sounded the alarm on May 29 and she described his disappearance as "completely out of character".
She wrote on an Albufeira expat site: "My brother has not been since Tuesday evening. If you are currently there and have any information place contact me with any info."
Greg Monks’ body is understood to have been found by police at the bottom of a ravine.

His sister Jillian had said: “There are about 10 to 15 friends all from Scotland on the stag do and Greg was due to be a groomsman.”

And tragically Portuguese police gave an update today saying that the body of a 38-year-old man had been found in the search for Greg. Sources from the law enforcement said investigators
believe Greg, from Glasgow, got lost and fell to his death as he tried to get back to his hotel.
Authorities said that having investigated possible paths he may have taken, they found a body in the Cerro de Aguia area. Because of the fact he laid undiscovered for a week in high
temperatures, his body had begun to decompose.
The well-placed police source said: “There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man’s death was linked in any way to a crime. But we need to wait for the autopsy results to conclude

Greg Monks’ family thanks “amazing” support in helping to try and find him.
The 38 year old was found today at the bottom of a ravine in Albufeira, close to where he was last seen.
His heartbroken sister Jillian Monks said: “I just want to thank absolutely everyone for everything they done from sharing their posts to out looking, phoning everywhere to get CCTV.”
She said “everyone has been truly amazing”. And she added: “The support we have received from everyone has been out of this world.”
Greg’s aunt Pat Martin also wrote a tribute on Facebook stating: “As Greg aunt deeply heartbroken but as the 2 girls have said so many amazing people helping our family although not the
outcome we would have hoped for RIP Greg.”
Greg Monks had only been in the Algarve for a matter of hours before he disappeared a week ago.
He and his friends having checked into the Novochoro Apartments before heading out to bars in Albufeira.
They then visited King's Cross karaoke bar before Greg became separated from the rest of the group.
The family shared a photograph of the last known picture of him, showing him in navy Nike shorts and a t-shirt of the same brand.
Police have revealed where the body was found in the search for Gary Monks.
The 38 year old from Glasgow had been missing since last Wednesday after going to Portugal on a stag do.
And today the authorities said that having investigated possible paths he may have taken, they found a body in the Cerro de Aguia area.
A statement from the Portuguese police read: "The Judicial Police, through the Southern Directorate, with the collaboration of the GNR of Albufeira, located in the Cerro de Aguia area of
Albufeira the body of a man who had been missing since May 28th."
Greg Monks sister Jillian has told of her heartbreak after a body was found in the search for him in Portugal.
"Didn’t think it would end like this..," she wrote on Facebook. "We are absolutley devastated! Greg was an amazing boy who everyone thought so highly of, Was friends with everyone and always
made us laugh! We will miss him everyday!
"I just want to thank absolutely everyone for everything they done from sharing their posts to out looking, phoning everywhere to get CCTV.
She added: "The support we have received from everyone has been out of this world. If love coulda saved you, you would live forever! Miss you forever brother."

Jillian Monks hailed the 38-year-old as "an amazing boy" who made everyone laugh as she thanked those who had helped try to find him in Albufeira.
Posting in the Missing Person Greg Monks - Albufeira, Portugal Facebook group, she wrote: "Didn’t think it would end like this.. We are absolutely devastated!"
Police in Albufeira has confirmed that a body has been found in the search for Greg Monks and it has been taken away for an autopsy.
A statement from the local police said that an investigation had been carried out following the disappearance of the 38 year old from Glasgow on routes that he might have taken.
It now said the body was found "on a vacant and very uneven terrain".
And the police added that following a forensic examination of the site, the body was "removed to the Legal Medicine Office in the area in order to perform an autopsy".
Forensic officers can be seen at a ravine in the Algarve where Greg Monks' body was found.

The body was “a long way from the spot where he was last seen" in the Algarve and police are working on the theory that he got lost as he tried to find his hotel.

Greg's autopsy will not be made public. This is in accordance with Portuguese law.
The exact spot where his body was found, and the time it was discovered, has not been made public.
A police source has said that so far "nothing" has been found that would indicate a suspicious death.
"There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man’s death was linked in any way to a crime," they said. Police are still awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Greg's body had begun to decompose due to the high temperatures in the area he was found.

Portuguese cops did not say in its statement whether Greg’s family had been informed but relatives are understood to have been asked to attend an Algarve police station before the PJ went
public with the discovery of Greg’s body.
Last month Edinburgh University history student Gregor Thomson vanished briefly less than a full day after arriving in Madrid with rugby club teammates for a weekend trip abroad.
The 21-year-old’s dad Murray touched down in the Spanish capital to learn his son had reappeared after becoming separated from friends during a night out.
Police have not revealed what they believe to be Greg's cause of death.
More information is expected to be released after the autopsy takes place but privately, while the hunt was still on for Greg, police said there was nothing pointing to his disappearance
being a crime.
Police in Portugal have confirmed the body of Greg Monks has been found after a week-long search.
The Policia Judiciaria police force said in a statement: “The PJ has located the body of the missing Scottish tourist in Albufeira.”
It added: “PJ police, through the Southern Directorate and with the collaboration of the Albufeira GNR police force, today located the body of a man who had been missing since May 28 in the
Cerro de Aguia area of Albufeira.
“The disappearance of the 38-year-old UK citizen was reported to the Albufeira GNR at 8pm on the 28th by another man who was accompanying him on holiday in the area.
“After carrying out various enquiries and establishing the presumed route taken in the early hours of that day since the last sighting, the body was located on steep wasteland.
“After the appropriate judicial inspection, the body will be removed and taken to the nearest Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.”
Greg's family has insisted his disappearance was out of character and he did not suffer from mental health problems.
Jillian said: "He’s not got any mental health issues or issues with depression. Nothing like this has ever happened before. That’s why when I got the phone call from one of his friends on
Wednesday to say he had gone missing it immediately threw up a red flag."
Jillian also said she and her sister have children and Greg was a "great" uncle to them.
"My daughter particularly has got a very close bond with him," she said. '"She dotes on him."
