ABSTRACT THE need for widely extended facilities for agricultural research is being more and more recognised both by men of science and by our administrative authorities. At the last meeting
of the executive committee of the British Science Guild a memorial to the Prime Minister on the subject of research in agriculture was approved. The President of the Board of Agriculture
and Fisheries has now appointed a committee to advise the Board as to how agricultural research may be best encouraged and improved. Lastly, a society has been incorporated to secure the
development and extension of the investigations inaugurated and endowed by the late Sir John Lawes. These are all excellent indications that a determined and united effort is to be made to
