ABSTRACT EARLIER investigations1 have shown that a spectacular cellular proliferation occurs in the epithelium of the mouse Müllerian vaginal anlage and in the uterine cervix during
approximately the first week after birth. This proliferation is paralleled by a cellular degeneration2. It has been suggested that the latter phenomenon is caused, at least in part, by a
