Access through your institution Buy or subscribe To the editor: Genome sequencing has transformed biomedical research, but it is only the first step toward understanding biological systems.
Subsequent steps include the determination of three-dimensional (3D) structures and functions for all proteins, and the study of networks. Although the contribution of structural genomics to
accelerating the acquisition of experimental structures of proteins is undoubted, certain protein families have been more tractable to high-throughput approaches than others. Here, we
analyze a database of experimental structures and use a concept termed 'novel leverage' to measure the impact of structural genomics in providing new structural knowledge. This is
