Dr Paul Brocklehurst of the University of Manchester has been successful in the latest round of the prestigious National Institute of Health Research's (NIHR) Clinician Scientist
Awards. Dr Brocklehurst is a Specialist Registrar in Dental Public Health based at the School of Dentistry. The award adds to Manchester's success over the last five years in attracting
NIHR awards for research training. This is the third NIHR Clinician Scientist Award supported by the School; in addition the School hosts or has hosted four NIHR In-Practice Training
Fellows, an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, two Academic Clinical Fellows and a NIHR career scientist. It has plans to advertise for two more Academic Clinical Fellows and an Academic
Clinical Lecturer in the near future. Dr Brocklehurst will continue his specialist training and undertake a five-year postdoctoral research programme investigating the cost-effectiveness of
using skill mix within primary dental care. This programme will be supported by collaborations across the University of Manchester and with international researchers. Professor Martin
Tickle, Director of Research for the School, said: 'This is a great achievement for Paul and it is very well deserved. [...] This is good news for Manchester and good news for dental
research.' RIGHTS AND PERMISSIONS Reprints and permissions ABOUT THIS ARTICLE CITE THIS ARTICLE Good news for research in Manchester. _Br Dent J_ 210, 255 (2011).
