There are major inequities in access to insulin pump therapy among patients with type 1 diabetes, according to a recent survey. NICE guidance says 12 per cent of type 1 diabetes patients
should use pump therapy, but the survey found the average rate of PCT insulin pump provision was just 3.9 per cent. Uptake ranged from 17 per cent of patients in NHS Blackburn with Darwen,
compared with only 0.4 per cent in Luton. The survey questioned all primary care trusts in England and was undertaken by the charity umbrella group the Medical Technology Group.
