The Liberty opened Commissioner’s Cup play Sunday by torching the Sun 100-52 in what was the most lopsided win in franchise history.

The defending champions improved to 7-0, which ties the 1997 team for the best start to a season in franchise history.

Ten days after setting the WNBA record for most 3-pointers made in a game, New York matched it again.

“One more 3” chants broke out among the crowd of more than 17,000 at Barclays Center with less than two minutes to go after the Liberty drained their record-tying 19th 3-pointer earlier in

the fourth.

That final trey never came — not that fans minded.

The Liberty were led by Sabrina Ionescu’s four 3-pointers and 18 points.

Ten of the 11 Liberty players who attempted a 3 made at least one from behind the arc, and five players sank multiple 3s as they finished a staggering 19-for-32 or 59.4 percent.

The Liberty also shot 62.3 percent from the field and had 29 assists on 33 field goals.

“It was great to be able to see the contribution from everyone,” said Ionescu, who’s only one 3 away from tying Crystal Robinson for most career 3s in Liberty franchise history. “Everyone

came out really ready, everyone scored and contributed in a really impactful way from start to finish every single quarter.”

It’s one thing to win comfortably, which the Liberty have already done a few times this season.

It’s another to totally crush a team’s spirit.

Sunday was a show of dominance and impressive stamina by the Liberty, who showed no signs of fatigue despite playing their fourth game in six days.

New York ran Connecticut out of the gym in the first quarter and never let up.

The Liberty opened the game going 7-for-9 from deep and made 12 3s by halftime.

Their 32-point halftime lead was the franchise’s second-largest lead entering the third quarter ever.

In the third quarter, the Liberty outscored the Sun 30-8.

The Liberty, who led by as many as 57 points, didn’t score for the final 5:15, but it didn’t matter.

Victory seemed inevitable from the jump.

“This was a big game for us to come in and just make a statement that we’re tough, we’re relentless, we can push through whatever,” Natasha Cloud said. “There’s no excuses. We needed to come

out here today.”

Jonquel Jones notched her fifth double-double in six games, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Breanna Stewart and Leonie Fiebich each scored 13 points and went 3-for-4 from deep.

Sunday was a total team effort.

Every Liberty player who stepped foot on the court Sunday scored at least two points.

All but one player grabbed at least one rebound.

“It was great to be able to see the contribution from everyone,” Ionescu said. “Everyone came out really ready, everyone scored and contributed in a really impactful way from start to finish

every single quarter.”

Jones said the team was “due” for a game like Sunday.

“We had some games where our talent and our individual skill kind of helped us win, and so it was good to have a game where just everything was clicking and moving well,” Jones said. “It’s

obviously our chemistry and our time playing with one another, but also the system and everybody just feeling comfortable within it.”

Sunday’s 48-point romping was the most lopsided win in franchise history and second largest margin of victory in league history.

The Liberty’s previous biggest win was against the Mystics by 43 points on Aug. 13, 1998.

New York will get some much-deserved rest before returning to Washington to play the Mystics on Thursday.
