Nick Hoult Chief Cricket Correspondent, in Grenada 27 March 2022 5:06pm BST After two drawn Test matches to start England's red-ball reset when Joe Root's side at least tried to
push for victory, the wheels fell off again in Grenada and West Indies recorded a 10-wicket win over the tourists for the first time since 1986, to make it a fourth successive Caribbean
series defeat and England's fifth Test series loss in succession. Here is our verdict on each of the 13 England players who featured in this series. ALEX LEES Heavy footed with a
limited range of shots, Lees looked no better than many of his recent predecessors. Willing to stay in and work hard so credit for that. 4/10 FUTURE Early days but low ceiling as Test
batsman. ZAK CRAWLEY Bowlers get criticised for bowling the same ball, Crawley is the batting equivalent: plays the same innings every time. Needs to adapt and do things he doesn’t want to
do, like get in and score some ugly runs. 5/10 FUTURE Captain material if he matures. JOE ROOT Lots of fine words about resets and fresh starts but same old story: his team unable to cope
with pressure and his tactical limitations exposed. 6/10 FUTURE Time to concentrate on breaking Sir Alastair Cook’s records. DAN LAWRENCE Poor selection at No 4. Plays breathtaking shots
but can he survive for six hours against quality bowling on a difficult pitch? We know the answer to that one. 5/10 FUTURE At No 6 in a better team than this but that goes for most others
too. BEN STOKES Put body on the line to make up for new-ball toothlessness of others and thrilling hundred in Barbados accelerated a dull game. 6/10 FUTURE Captain Stokes. It will be a
white-knuckle ride but can give team menacing edge it needs. JONNY BAIRSTOW Faded after his hundred in Antigua, an innings that saved England from collapse, but he can do a job for the team
over the next 12 months at No 6. 5/10 FUTURE England lack spikiness and he can provide it. Give him more responsibility. BEN FOAKES Tidy behind the stumps without dazzling but he has only
ever made runs on slow turners. Average of 19 and brainless run out in Grenada questions temperament under pressure. 3/10 FUTURE Give Billings a go. CRAIG OVERTON An option on green tops in
England but that is it. Lacks the pace at Test level and the punch to land the final blow when England needed it as Da Silva won the series for West Indies. 4/10 FUTURE Only if injuries
hit. CHRIS WOAKES Stepping into James Anderson’s shoes was too daunting at the end of a long winter. Lost his accuracy and his nip, failing to take a single wicket with the new ball,
averaging 48. Batting earned a mark. 4/10 FUTURE Only at home. JACK LEACH Joe Root gave him his chance but only offered control and no attacking threat. Gutsy, but limited cricketer, who
gives everything for the team. 6/10 FUTURE Needs to be forced to develop more variation. SAQIB MAHMOOD Find of the tour, averaging 22. Bowls an excellent, quick yorker, poses questions with
the new ball and reverses the old. Spirited batting saved England from humiliation in Grenada. Lots to work with. 7/10 FUTURE Exposed folly of not picking him last summer. Give him the new
ball and let Jimmy teach him tricks of the trade. MARK WOOD No surprise his body gave up after the flogging in Australia where England wasted him at times making him do the donkey work for
others. Sorely missed in final Test meltdown. 5/10 FUTURE At 32, wrap him up for 2023 Ashes. MATT FISHER Could be a good option as home specialist but England have plenty of those already.
Credit he did not look overawed but lots to learn about bowling on flat pitches. 5/10 FUTURE See how he goes in a home Test.
