Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and her team often make news for using social media to assist Indians in need. In the past, there have been a number of incidents where distressed
Indians have reached out to Swaraj via social media and have received prompt assistance. Swaraj has also launched an initiative called ‘Twitter seva’ where people can contact her ministry
for help. Recently, an elderly Indian gentleman named Shiv Charan Gheeya, who resides in France, uploaded a video on YouTube asking the Indian authorities to help him and his wife return to
India. The couple had been unsuccessfully trying to return to India for the last four years. In the video, Shiv Charan revealed that he was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2013. He
admitted that he was a diabetes patient and had undergone two heart surgeries before being diagnosed with cancer. He can be heard saying that his wife is also unwell. He says he has reached
out to the authorities to help them return to India because they were finding it difficult to stay alone in France. Swaraj responded by directing Indian Ambassador to France, Mohan Kumar, to
make the necessary arrangements and bring the couple back home “at our expense”. Swaraj also spoke to Shiv Charan, who is from Udaipur, and has assured him of help. > Shri Shiv Charan ji
is from Udaipur. I told him that we are prepared > to fly them back to India immediately. /3 > — Sushma Swaraj (@SushmaSwaraj) January 10, 2017 Twitterati praised the minister’s
efforts to help the couple. > @SushmaSwaraj Man you are one of rarest species in terms of > politics. Proud of you mam. ⤠the way you work which is > inspiring :-) > —
