Sixty-five years down the lane, mothers of the martyrs in the Battle of Kohima still remember the sacrifices made by their sons on the battlefield, proud that their sons gave up their lives
for the nation.
They showed incredible brevity and courage by fighting till their last breath, in unbearable conditions, only so that the country could sleep peacefully at night.
The Battle of Kohima or the Battle of the Tennis Court, fought in the first week of April during World War II in 1944, resulted in the death of almost 1,900 soldiers. While over 900 Indian
and Sikh soldiers were cremated, according to rituals, the War Cemetery in Kohima rests in where 1,240 bravehearts rest in peace.
