David Luiz was involved in a physical altercation with his Arsenal team-mate Dani Ceballos in training during the international break. It is understood the Arsenal defender was unhappy about
a late tackle from the Spain midfielder at the end of a training session on Friday. There was a brief confrontation before they were separated by team-mates. Luiz, 33, and Ceballos, 24,
were sent home but are understood to have made up. The pair were spoken to by the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta when the squad returned to training on Tuesday to prepare for the league match
against Leeds United on Sunday. Arsenal are said to be relaxed about the situation and Ceballos, who clashed with Eddie Nketiah during the warm-up before Arsenal’s 3-0 win at Craven Cottage
on the opening day of the season in September, described one report as “fake” on Twitter. The flashpoint then came in a passing drill in the pre-match warm-up when Ceballos caught Nketiah,
21, as he tried to claim a loose ball. Nketiah said something to the midfielder, who responded by shoving the young forward before shouting at him as he prepared to restart the training
drill. Advertisement When Ceballos made a second challenge, Nketiah kicked the ball at him. Ceballos pushed Nketiah again before Sead Kolasinac separated the players and prevented a
flare-up. “We made up pretty quickly, apologised quickly and get on with it,” Nketiah said at the time. “That’s what happens in life.” Arteta is under pressure after a 3-0 defeat at home by
Aston Villa before the international break, when his side’s lack of creativity led to some calls for him to bring Mesut Özil back into the squad in January. The manager omitted the
32-year-old midfielder from his Premier League and Europa League squads for the first half of the season, and defended his decision. “The moment that you lose football matches his name
[Özil] is going to come up and when you don’t it won’t,” Arteta said.
