Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam has submitted his resignation and offered to step down, citing the poor show that the Congress has had in the BMC polls. He has cited infighting as a
major reason for the step taken by him during a press conference here. As per sources, he has already submitted his resignation to the party high command. Nirupam took blame for the dismal
show put up by the party but not before disclosing names of senior members who he blamed for its performance in the BMC. Although he admitted that the party put a 'below average'
show in the BMC polls, he admitted that several other members in the party were trying to make the situation complicated for the party. Other than that, he also blamed parties like the AIMIM
and other factions for breaking up the Congress party in the State. As of now, the Shiv Sena are cruising away in the BMC polls with 93 seats, BJP currently has 65 seats,
but the others have failed to make any impact. This is one of the worst performance put up by the Congress party in recent years, but it was something that was widely predicted. Congress
have just managed to bag 22 seats, which is worse than the performance it put up in 2012. The reason for the party's poor show has expressed by numerous leaders and top sources from the
party who said there was no coordination in the party and no one trusted each other. Adding to that, the campaign put up by Congress was appalling in comparison to that of the BJP or Sena.
