Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar today termed the protest by a women’s group against ban on their entry at the Shani Shingnapur Temple in Maharashtra as ‘justified’. “Women are justified
that there is no gender discrimination in our scripture. If men can enter, women can enter too,” he said. Sri Sri further said that the awareness should be created about the equal religious
rights of men and women. “Religious leaders in the country should educate our people that men and women have equal rights and scriptures are required to be understood properly. Few years
back, women were not even allowed to chant Gayatri Mantra, but now they are learning Vedic chanting,” he said. Earlier in the day, over 1500 members of a women group headed to the Shani
Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district to offer prayer to Lord Shani. They were later detained by the police at Supa village near the shrine.
