Barely weeks after the RK Puram Lake in Hyderabad had spilled toxic froth, Bengaluru’s infamous Bellandur Lake too started frothing again on Thursday.
Despite the measures taken by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the
condition of the lake has not improved. The lake has been spewing froth all over the surrounding road and localities and has created havoc for the citizens of Bellandur.
Bellandur along with Varthur and RK Puram are lakes that have demonstrated the epitome of the civic authorities’ failure in controlling pollution and maintaining the water bodies that play a
crucial role in the daily lives of local residents.
Bengaluru civic authorities have stated that the process of de-beading has already started for the Bellandur Lake which is one of the largest lakes in Bengaluru city and receives almost 40%
of the sewage water released in water bodies; however, installation of aerators has still not begun.
