Border Patrol agents have arrested a Mexican man attempting to smuggle over $250,000 worth of heroin and methamphetamine under a pickup truck bed. Agents at the checkpoint on Interstate 8 in
Campo stopped the Ford Ranger on Wednesday afternoon and sent the driver and vehicle to secondary inspection. A K-9 alerted agents to the presence of drugs, and a search turned up 88
bundles under a false floor in the truck bed. The bundles contained 88.85 pounds of meth valued at $185,380 and approximately 6.95 pounds of heroin valued at $69,960. The driver, a
31-year-old Mexican national, was placed under arrest and the vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol. So far this fiscal year, agents in the San Diego Sector have seized 1,928 pounds of
meth and 188 pounds of heroin with a combined street value of nearly $9 million.
