San Diego State (2-2) opens Mountain West play Friday against Boise State (2-2) and defensive lineman Keshawn Banks has a handle on what to expect. “They have a mobile quarterback, good
running back, decent (offensive) line and talented skill players,” the senior said. “They’re a good offensive team, but it’s nothing new that we haven’t had to play against before.” The
Aztec defense rose to the occasion in their 17-14 win over Toledo Saturday, but SDSU is still trying to sort out its offense, from its inexperienced offensive line to quarterback Braxton
Burmeister. Head coach Brady Hoke concedes Burmeister hasn’t always made good decisions. But his runs on San Diego State’s do-or-die final drive against Toledo made the difference for the
Aztecs. “You see what he brings to the table on those scrambles. Now, we want to hit some of those things on designed runs a little bit more,” he said. As far as injuries, Hoke said Chance
Bell is expected to return for the 5 p.m. game in Boise and Patrick McMorris is likely to be back. Jaylon Armstead, however, is doubtful. Meanwhile, Jack Browning, a West Hills High alum,
has been named the MW Special Teams Player of the Week. It is his first such accolade. In the kicking game, Browning made his only field goal attempt –a career-long 50-yards – and was
2-for-2 in PATs. The walk-on also punted nine times for 364 yards (40.4 on average) with a long of 56 yards. In other good news for Browning, he received a scholarship after Sunday’s
practice.
