Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE), received the Veteran of the Year Award for Greater Atlanta from The Warrior Alliance for excellence in service to our nation, fellow

Veterans and community. The recipient of the Veteran of the Year plays an important role in strengthening the communities in which our Veterans live. The Warrior Alliance hosted the 1st

annual Veteran Impact Awards and Gala to honor local Atlanta Veterans who have made significant contributions to enrich our communities and serve other Veterans. The evening included an

Atlanta Braves Foundation auction, military demos, dinner and live entertainment. Most importantly, Dr. Anthony Cooper will represented the VA as one of the nominees up for one of the

prestigious awards. “I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be chosen as the first recipient of the Veteran of the Year Award. I was recognized individually but I cannot overemphasize the impact

our AVAHCS and CDCE staff has on this achievement. This award is reflective of CDCE’s philanthropic engagement within our communities for the greater good of the VA’s mission to care our

Veterans.” Dr. Cooper served 20 years in the Army and is the spouse of a Veteran. He believes in helping his fellow Veterans in any way possible. “I want to let Veterans know their lives are

worth living and their sacrifice was worth it and we need to do whatever we can to help those that are struggling,” said Cooper. That is why I am so passionate about what I do working with

the Department of Veterans Affairs to let them know if there is anything we can do to help them for their service to our country, we are going to do it.” The Warrior Alliance’s mission is to

help Warriors and their families achieve a fulfilling civilian life by promoting collaboration between the organizations that can support them during the transition from military service.

“The impact of Dr. Cooper’s service to Veterans here at the Atlanta VAHCS is immeasurable,” said Medical Center Director Ann Brown. “The outstanding relationships he has with community

partners, legislators and especially Veterans in one of a kind. He is a leader whose efforts improve the lives of those we serve and I’m honored to be a part of his team.”
