BEDFORD, Mass— On Monday, December 16, 2024, the VA Bedford Healthcare System received a generous $20,000 donation from Massachusetts-based nonprofit Vettes to Vets, a group dedicated to
supporting Veterans for over two decades. The contribution marks another milestone in Vettes to Vets’ longstanding partnership with the VA Bedford, facilitated through the Center for
Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE), formerly known as Voluntary Service. CDCE Specialists, including Casey Sloan, Colleen Gavin, and Navy Veteran Kevin Dougherty, have worked closely
with Vettes to Vets’ and have expressed gratitude for the nonprofit’s unwavering support. A TRADITION OF SERVICE Since its inception in 2003, Vettes to Vets has blended passion for Corvettes
with a heartfelt mission to serve Veterans. What began as a modest gathering of just 25 car enthusiasts grew into a cherished annual event at VA Bedford Hospital. Each year, hundreds of
Corvette owners came together, braving all weather conditions, to showcase their vehicles and raise funds for veterans. The event quickly gained momentum, becoming a major highlight for both
Veterans and the local community. At its peak in 2019, over 700 Corvettes lined up in support of Veterans, earning Vettes to Vets national recognition. Over the years, the organization’s
commitment has resulted in more than $100,000 in donations to VA Bedford programs—an effort that has earned accolades such as the VA’s Best Practices award and the National Award for
Voluntary Excellence (HAVE). PERSEVERANCE THROUGH CHALLENGES The COVID-19 pandemic brought unforeseen challenges, halting large in-person gatherings. However, the Vettes to Vets community
remained steadfast. While no further car shows are planned, their mission continues through generous contributions, like this week’s $20,000 donation. “We are proud to continue supporting
the VA Bedford Healthcare System and the Veterans who sacrificed so much for us,” said Karen Blandini, Vettes to Vets President. “Though our events may have concluded, our dedication to
Veterans will never waver.” IMPACT ON VA BEDFORD VETERANS The funds donated will directly enhance programs and services at VA Bedford. The CDCE team, which plays a vital role in coordinating
these efforts, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the nonprofit’s ongoing commitment. “Organizations like Vettes to Vets truly make a difference in the lives of our Veterans,” said Casey
Sloan, CDCE Specialist. “Their support allows us to provide essential services and programs that improve the quality of life for those who have served our nation.” As Vettes to Vets
continues its legacy of giving, their efforts stand as a shining example of how passion and community can create a lasting impact. For the veterans at VA Bedford Healthcare System, this
donation represents not only financial support but a powerful reminder that their service and sacrifices are never forgotten.
