Butler , PA — Butler VA Health Care System will be honoring Women Veterans Day (observed on June 12) with a Women Veterans Retreat on Saturday, June 8, from 10am – 2pm at J & J Animal
Sanctuary located at 939 Ekastown Road, Saxonburg, Pa. The event is open to women Veterans and their families, but all Veterans are welcome. The picnic style event will feature activities
for the family to include interaction with some of the animals on the farm. Butler VA staff will be present to provide information on VA services to include Women Veterans program,
eligibility and enrollment, PACT Act, toxic exposure, health and wellness, suicide prevention, whole health, and much more. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for our women Veterans to
connect with their families and with other Veterans,” comments Rebecca Brown, Women Veterans Program Manager. “But more importantly, it is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the
service, contributions, and sacrifices of our women Veterans.” Women Veterans Day, also referred to as Women Veterans Recognition Day and Women Veterans Appreciation Day, is the anniversary
of the day the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act (pub.L. 80–625, 62 Stat. 356) was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. Prior to then, only women nurses could
serve in the regular and reserve forces during peacetime. Women Veterans Day is not a separate day for women Veterans, it is a tribute to a groundbreaking day when women were acknowledged
as essential to the war efforts and could serve in the regular armed forces. J and J Farms Animal Sanctuary is a vetted and approved Butler VA Veterans Community Partner (VCP) offering
volunteer opportunities and event discounts to Veterans. For more information about the Women Veterans Retreat Day, please call 878-271-6989.
