PRESS RELEASE June 13, 2024 Charleston , SC — The Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System will celebrate the 100th birthday of Pvt. Julian Snype, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, June 14,
2024, at 2 p.m. at the Veterans’ Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina. Snype joined the Army in 1943 as an 18-year-old. He had grown up on a Johns Island family farm. After getting
out of the military and living in New York for a short stint as a meat packer, he has since lived in Charleston. Snype loaded ammunition and firearms onto trucks during WWII, usually loading
and un-loading them for trips back and forth to the front lines. During this celebration of his accomplishments, Snype will be presented with a “shadowbox” style gift commemorating his
years of service during such an influential time in history for both our country and the world. During the shadowbox presentation, U.S. Air Force Reserve Brigadier General John Painter, who
is also a Chaplain at the Ralph H. Johnson VA, will present his award and thank him for his valiant and brave service. Media contacts William Brugge, Public Affairs Specialist PHONE: ###
