Dr. Taquisa K. Simmons was appointed Executive Director, Hampton VA Health Care System on January 17, 2021. Dr. Simmons oversees delivery of health care to more than 70,000 Veterans at the
medical center, which is currently experiencing a 21 percent growth rate (more than 4 times the national average) and an operating budget exceeding $774 million. In her previous position,
Dr. Simmons was appointed Associate Director of Operations of the Hampton VA Medical Center, on March 4, 2018. As Associate Director of Operations of the Hampton VA Medical Center, she was
responsible for service lines that included Fiscal, Health Administration, Prosthetics, Supply Chain Management, Voluntary Service, Police, Environmental Management, Engineering Service,
Privacy and LGBTQ Program Office. Dr. Simmons brings ten years of entrepreneurial experience as prior CEO/Owner of a mental health community-based agency which offered clinical and
residential services. She was responsible for three sites across Virginia that included Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Hopewell while serving over 5,000 Veterans and civilians over the course of
10 years. In 2013, she joined Veterans Health Administration as a Supervisory Social Worker with the Central Virginia Healthcare System (CVHCS). She went on to serve a level 1a complexity
facility as Assistant Director and as Acting Associate Director before transitioning to Hampton VAMC.
