Manchester , NH — For the eighth consecutive year, the Manchester Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) received the Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading
organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care. The award is one of the Environmental Excellence Awards given each year to honor environmental achievements and
sustainability in the health care sector. Shawn Rice, VA Manchester’s chief of safety and emergency management, shared this award is unique as it is based solely on data-driven achievements.
“Unlike many awards, the nomination process is data and results driven,” stated Rice. “Meaning our application was selected based on a comparison of our baseline, our sustainability
efforts, and our overall performance.” The Partner for Change Award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon programs to eliminate mercury, reduce, and
recycle waste, source products sustainably, and more. As a winning facility, Manchester VAMC has demonstrated success in environmentally preferable purchasing, waste prevention, and
developed sustainability programs in many areas. Green Environmental Management System Program Manager Amanda Furtado spearheads the medical center’s environmental advances on a day-to day
basis through sustainability and resiliency within indoor and outdoor spaces. “Amanda's exceptional dedication and commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices has earned the
Manchester VA Medical Center the prestigious Practice Green Health Award,” shared Rice. “We are happy to see her efforts and achievements in environmental excellence recognized.” It is the
mission of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves patient health and well-being. As health care
providers, environmental sustainability is at the core of VHA’s healing mission and central to protecting the health of patients, staff, and the community. At Manchester VAMC, the
data-driven results display the efforts taken in sustainability programs and the positive impact they have on the environment and communities we serve. To learn more about VA Manchester’s

Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Gala, on May 23, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the conclusion of the CleanMed Conference & Exhibition.
