PRESS RELEASE January 3, 2024 Baltimore , MD — The VA Maryland Health Care System is seeking caregivers living within 40 miles of its Perry Point VA Medical Center in Cecil County, Maryland
to participate in the VA Medical Foster Home (MFH) Program. The MFH program is a regional VA initiative that was first established for Baltimore-area veterans in 2010. Most recently, the
program has expanded to Cecil County, with plans to expand to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the next few years. The MFH Program offers a safe, long-term home environment for veterans who
are unable to live independently. MFH provides an economical housing alternative to nursing home care for veterans who prefer a home-like setting. It is also a way for persons with an
interest in caregiving to work in their own homes, providing 24-hour supervision, as well as personal and home care as needed to our nation’s veterans. All caregivers must meet specific
criteria and complete VA-provided training. Community homes are surveyed annually by an interdisciplinary VA team and must be licensed by the State of Maryland. Each veteran in the MFH
program is followed by a Home-Based Primary Care team. Caregivers are paid monthly, with the cost of services being dependent upon the care needs of the veteran. Potential caregivers and
