Center. (Official photograph by Cory R. Chapin) By Cory Chapin, Public Affairs Specialist October 20, 2022 MOUNTAIN HOME, Tenn.— VA Employee’s Association (VAEA) hosted its annual Trunk or
Treat event October 14, 2022, open to employees at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center (JHQVAMC). The event included food trucks, inflatable bounce houses and games, and a pumpkin carving
contest. Employees and their families sported costumes and collected candy at the various trunks or tents, decorated and hosted by departments within the medical center. There were 22
trunks with diverse themes including a M*A*S*H inspired tent, a dungeon setting with Disney’s Queen Grimhilde, Hocus Pocus witches, and a haunted luau. Sherri McAvoy, Administrative
Assistant for Education and Staff Development service, and other employees in the department decorated their trunk using a disco theme. “It’s a groovy time and fun to see the kids’ happy
faces,” she said. McAvoy said the event helps coworkers bond. Event goers voted for the best trunk during the event. First place in the competition was “Animatronics” by Education and Staff
Development service. “Great Pumpkin” by Nursing service placed second in the competition and “70s Groovy” by Education and Staff Development service placed third. VAEA Vice President April
Frazier hopes to see the event grow. “We want to get the word out to employees and get even more trunks to participate,” said Frazier. “Employees look forward to it because they can bring
their families and have some fun.”
