On 3 Sep. 2024, Dr. Lindsey Goldstein, Chief of Surgical Service, was awarded the Dr. Richard R. Streiff Award for Clinical Excellence within the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Heath
System. Each year, one physician is selected to receive the Dr. Richard R. Streiff Award for Clinical Excellence. Dr. Streiff was a VA hematologist who, for over 46 years, taught compassion,
service to others, and commitment to the highest quality of care for his patients. This award was created in his name to recognize those that best demonstrate Dr. Streiff’s ideals and
dedication to clinical excellence. Dr. Goldstein was selected as this year’s award recipient for her unwavering dedication to expanding the surgical staff and services provided to Veterans.
“I was very honored to present this award to Dr. Lindsey Goldstein this year as she has worked tirelessly to standardize and improve surgical patient care in our facility,” said Dr. Ilona
Schmalfuss, Chief of Staff, and presenter of the award. “Under her leadership, a succinct process in referral of patients from primary care to surgical service has been developed to
facilitate faster diagnosis and surgical decisions.” Dr. Goldstein is a great advocate for patient-centered care. She has developed certain pathways to streamline Veteran’s consult
processes. She has also collaborated with multiple service lines to ensure Veterans have undergone appropriate workup for their health issue to facilitate faster surgical decisions. As Chief
of Surgical Service Dr. Goldstein is also an esteemed educator in her field and contributes substantially to the surgical training of residents and fellows. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to
pass on the knowledge and skills I’ve gained over the years. By training others, I know I’m contributing to the future of medicine in a way that has a broader impact than I could achieve
alone," Dr. Goldstein said. “Every day, my priority is ensuring that Veterans receive the timely, high-quality care they deserve. These individuals have dedicated their lives to serving
our country, and I feel a deep sense of responsibility to give them the best possible treatment. It’s my way of giving back to those who have given so much.” At North Florida/South Georgia
Veterans Health System, we prioritize offering the highest quality of care to our Veterans, and Dr. Goldstein exemplifies this dedication. We are fortunate to have her as a part of our
team. For more information on the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, please visit
