SALISBURY, N.C. - Last month, the Salisbury VA Health Care System hosted one of the most widely attended job fairs in the history of the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) at the W.G.

(Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The job fair, which was held in the building six gymnasium aboard the Salisbury VA

campus, saw over 600 unique candidates arrive to explore federal employment opportunities with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Following intensive screening, interviews, and

onboarding actions, 88 job offers were extended to qualified candidates stemming directly from the job fair – a record for the Salisbury VA and VISN 6 human resources teams. “The

overwhelming success of this job fair is a testament to the work of our entire team. From administration and human resources, to engineering and information technology, as well as the many

volunteers and services that helped facilitate candidate interviews, this event was a result of many long hours of planning to give our community’s best a chance to serve our Veterans,” said

Charles “Dave” Collins, interim executive director of the Salisbury VA Health Care System. “Simply put, the job fair was one of our highest-ever attended public events since the Salisbury

VA medical center was established in 1953. I am excited to meet the dozens of new teammates we hired and look forward to welcoming new candidates at future career fairs.” The job fair began

early on a crisp fall Saturday morning. Dozens of candidates lined up at dawn, wrapped around the sidewalks of the sprawling Salisbury VA campus with resumes and other important employment

documents in-hand. When the doors flew open at 9 a.m., candidates poured into building six, filling hallways and common areas as they awaited their chance to meet the job fair hiring team,

eager to discover new career paths with the VA. “The significant response of interested candidates was amazing and shows how much this community values our nation’s Veterans and wants to

support our mission,” said Dr. Andrea L. Baumer, acting associate director of the Salisbury VA Health Care System. “I appreciate the VA team’s hard work and flexibility to adapt our

processes to accommodate the hundreds of candidates who attended the job fair.” From clinical to nonclinical positions, a variety of services and departments from the Charlotte,

Kernersville, and Salisbury VA facilities were represented in recruitment efforts in support of the job fair. Interviews and job offers were extended to candidates interested in careers with

nursing; housekeeping; food service; administration and support; and more. While employment opportunities could not be extended to every candidate who attended the job fair, the Salisbury

VA human resources team is keeping all submitted resumes on file to explore potential fit for future openings. Interested candidates may also visit www.usajobs.gov to browse additional

opportunities for federal employment with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Everyone at Team Salisbury is eagerly awaiting the next job fair, tentatively scheduled for early 2024! At

the Salisbury VA Health Care System, our mission is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and
