At the beginning of the year, the DC VA Medical Center Emergency Department Team worked with Facilities Management and Environmental Management Services to finalize renovation plans to
transform health care and waiting area spaces to better serve Veterans in the local area. On April 23, 2025, Dr. Philip Seton, Chief of the Emergency Department, made a ceremonial strike to
officially note the beginning of the first of the three-phased renovation and transformation project. Now through December 2025, Veterans will see “Please pardon our dust and noise” signage
adhered to drywall safety barriers and hear drills and construction activity as the much-needed transformation project is in-progress!
The renovation will transform the existing 11-bed Emergency Department into a 17-bed urgent treatment area. The space will also include:
Please forgive our dust and noise as the team prepares a renovated space to better meet increasing health care needs. Veterans will see the benefits of phase 1 as soon as July when the new
resuscitation area will be complete. The Veteran care areas and mental health spaces will be complete in October, just ahead of the final renovation which will be complete in December.
