Your Nuclear Thyroid test requires 2 days. This test evaluates thyroid function and size by measuring the amount of orally ingested radioactive iodine that accumulates in the thryoid for
imaging. You will be asked to swallow a capsule then return 4-6 hours later for pictures (40min). You will then be asked to return the next day for 15min. PLEASE FOLLOW SPECIAL
INSTRUCTIONS Do not eat or drink 4hrs prior to exam time (a little water for other medications, not listed below is ok) Amoidarone Contact Nuclear Medicine Dept Levothyroxine
(Synthroid) (Do not take for 4 weeks) Wait 4 weeks for Nuclear Thyroid exam after any Iodinated X-ray Contrast Materials procedure STOP Food sources with large amounts of iodine for 1
week. ex (Sea Food, Kelp, Cough syrup, Multivitamins, Table Salt) Propylthiouracil (PTU) (Do not take for 3 days) Tapozole (Do not take for 3 days) Special medication, specifically for
your test will be ordered 24hrs before the appointment. It is very important that you keep this appointment. However, should you need to change or cancel the appointment, please contact
