GARETH BALE COULDN'T RESIST A DIG AT MANCHESTER UNITED AFTER TOTTENHAM ENDED THEIR 17-YEAR WAIT FOR A TROPHY WITH VICTORY IN THE EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT 08:35, 22 May

2025 Following Tottenham's Europa League victory against Manchester United, Gareth Bale couldn't help but poke fun at the defeated team, jokingly labelling their performance as

'Unitedy'. The high-stakes match took place at the San Mames in Bilbao, as both teams sought redemption after underwhelming domestic campaigns. United's struggles continued as

they failed to penetrate Tottenham's defence, which had last managed a clean sheet in February —also against Manchester United. A solitary, somewhat fortunate goal from Brennan

Johnson, aided by a mistake from Luke Shaw, proved enough for Tottenham to claim their first major trophy in 17 years. Tottenham has often been subject to criticism and teasing, earning the

label 'Spursy' for their tendency to fall short. However, Bale, a former player for Real Madrid and Wales, playfully turned the tables on Manchester United after witnessing his

former club's triumph in Spain. Discussing the win with the TNT Sports panel, Bale was shown a post from Tottenham's official social media account that humorously referenced the

term 'Spursy'. He believes this win will help shed the negative perception surrounding the club. "It could be a Unitedy thing now, I'm telling you!" Bale quipped

with a grin. "But it gets rid of that stigma now for sure and hopefully we can build on it," reports the Mirror. While Bale was clearly enjoying the moment, former United defender

Rio Ferdinand seemed less enthused. He remarked: "Can we get off air now," following Bale's comment. Ange Postecoglou became the centre of attention after the game; the

Tottenham manager had previously declared in September his track record of 'always' securing a trophy in his second season and, despite Spurs' dismal Premier League

performance, he delivered in Bilbao. Postecoglou's future with the club may be up in the air, but he expressed a desire to stay on after the match. Bale believes that the ex-Celtic boss

deserves more time and support from Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy. "I think only the chairman can decide [whether he stays], to be honest. There's been so much talk about whether he

goes or whether he doesn't," Bale commented. "I guess it'll be interesting to see that because he's won a trophy, the first Tottenham manager to do so in a long

time. "So I guess the board has some decisions to make. "I like the football that he plays. Obviously he lacks a bit of a plan B. But tonight showed there is a plan B. There's

a different side to how he's played. Article continues below "So I guess if he also matures as a manager and brings that defensive side to his teams, of course he can still have

great success here."
