RECAP ON WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR Two people have been taken to hospital following an incident which saw police cordon off a road for several hours. A large police cordon remained in place on
Sunday after emergency services were called to Front Street, in Pelton, shortly after 10:45pm on Saturday. Photos from the scene showed a police cordon still in place on Sunday morning and
several police vans in the area. Photos show a number of shops within the police cordon, including Istanbul Pizza House. Durham Constabulary, North East Ambulance Service and the Great North
Air Ambulance Service attended the scene by road. Two people were then transported to hospital. A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident on
Front Street, Pelton shortly after 10:45pm on Saturday 24 May. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car. Two patients were
taken to hospital." At 00.16am this morning Durham Constabulary issued an online statement advising the public that Front Street was likely to be closed "for some time"
following an incident in the area. They also asked people to avoid speculation on the reason for the road closure. The police statement read: "Front Street in Pelton, Chester Le Street
is closed between the junctions of The Wynd and Grange Street. It is likely to be closed for some time. Please do not use this post to speculate on the reason for the road closure." The
Force has not provided any further updates at this time.
