GARY LINEKER'S THE REST IS FOOTBALL PODCAST HAS FOUND A NEW HOME AFTER THE MATCH OF THE DAY HOST'S DEPARTURE FROM THE BBC LAST WEEK AFTER 25 YEARS 13:08, 03 Jun 2025Updated 14:24,
03 Jun 2025 Gary Lineker has moved his wildly popular The Rest is Football podcast to streaming giant DAZN, following his departure from the BBC. The deal will see the much-loved show,
hosted by Lineker alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, feature footage from the Club World Cup in its video version. This comes as part of the agreement with DAZN, which holds the
rights for this summer's revamped FIFA tournament in the United States. The move follows the removal of the podcast from the BBC's audio streaming service last week, after Lineker
left the corporation. The former Tottenham and England striker, 64, bid farewell to the iconic highlights show last weekend, after a quarter-century at the helm. His departure came shortly
after the controversial former Everton and Barcelona striker apologised for sharing an anti-Semitic post on social media, leading to a mutual agreement between him and the BBC to part ways.
Having issued an unreserved apology, Lineker will no longer lead the BBC's coverage of the 2026 World Cup or the FA Cup next season. His final appearance on Match of the Day aired on 25
May, reports the Mirror. Article continues below Pete Oliver, DAZN CEO of Growth Markets, expressed his enthusiasm about their latest venture. He said: "The Rest Is Football is
essential viewing and listening for fans who want insight, entertainment, and personality - and this partnership is a brilliant way to bring the FIFA Club World Cup even closer to that
audience. It's about connecting global football with the voices fans trust and love, and showing the tournament in a fresh, exciting, and authentically British way." The scoop
follows revelations that BBC surprisingly scrapped what was supposed to be Lineker's swansong interview on Match of the Day with Liverpool's talisman Mohamed Salah just before his
last hoorah. Reports claim the Beeb canned Lineker's ultimate interview abruptly. Speculation is rife the move was to avoid any potentially explosive comments from Lineker regarding
Gaza during his chat with Salah, who has spoken about the Israel and Palestine conflict in the past. Insiders suggested the interview was set to hit screens on Match of the Day and Football
Focus during Lineker's final weekend before BBC sport head Alex Kay-Jelski decided to axe it. An informant reportedly told the Sun: "Out of nowhere, it got cancelled. Some people
think they didn't want Gary and Mo to talk about Gaza. Salah has spoken out in his support for Palestinians living in Gaza and Gary has made his feelings clear too. It felt like it may
have come up naturally in conversation. Article continues below "It seems they axed it rather than risk possible editorial issues. They'd only just overcome one storm so to face
another would have been a nightmare."
