THE M62 WAS CLOSED FOR HOURS BENJAMIN BLOSSE 07:02, 30 May 2025 Drivers were left trapped and stuck for hours after a serious crash shut the M62. The motorway was shut for ten hours on

Thursday night following the collision at around 6pm. It didn't open until 2.30am on Friday morning. Emergency services closed the motorway due to a 'serious collision' on the

eastbound carriageway. Motorists were brought to a standstill eastbound from junction 22 A627 near Rishworth Moor in Denshaw, to junction 24 for New Hey Road in Huddersfield. An air

ambulance also landed nearby and was seen flying over the motorway as drivers became stuck in a large police closure. No further details about the number of vehicles or condition of those

involved have been released by police yet. The closure saw thousands of motorists caught in the lengthy delays, including Leigh Leopards fans on their way home from the Super League match at

John Smith's Stadium, in Huddersfield. Article continues below One X user said: "M62 shut, nightmare for Leigh fans." Another posted: "On M62 so Leigh fans [are]

stuck." Others claimed they had been stuck for 'seven hours' before the closure was lifted and traffic was released by emergency services. Just after 1am, one stuck driver

said they "can’t wait to tell everyone in my life i was stuck on the M62 for 7 hours," while another said in frustration "You actually going to get us moving now or what?

Nearly 7 hours is beyond embarrassing and nowhere near good enough!" Driver Danny said on X, "Hurry up please lads I’m starving" after waiting for nearly six hours. Article

10pm, stranded motorist Chris said: "So I have been stuck in my car on the M62 for *4hrs* now. "Just documenting this in case the weather turns and I freeze to death. PS, can we

have better trains from Hull to Liverpool please, as I would take trains if quicker."
