Nurses from the Royal Marsden Hospital have been caring for their patients in other hospitals after the building’s top floor and roof were gutted by a major fire. A spokesperson for the

Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust said teams were providing specialist care to the 79 inpatients evacuated from the building to other hospitals. The hospital's 200 staff were also

evacuated during the course of yesterday afternoon after the alarm was raised at around 1.20pm. Two patients, who were in surgery at the time of the fire and three who were in recovery have

been transferred to the Royal Brompton Hospital, which is a few hundred yards away. Others were taken by nurses to a nearby church and then to other hospitals around the capital. Cally

Palmer, chief executive of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘We are extremely grateful to all the help given to us by our neighbouring hospitals and the support already shown
