apps on Android TV Roku and Xbox. Effective Thursday, May 24, micro-blogging site will not be supporting the video-based apps for Roku, Microsoft’s Xbox and Android TV devices, company
confirmed via a tweet. Twitter is said to be shutting down apps for these platforms because it will need to some make changes in order to comply with the European Union’s General Data
Protection Regulation (GDPR), that takes effect on May 25. "On Thursday, May 24, Twitter for Roku, Twitter for Android TV and Twitter for Xbox will no longer be available. To get the
full Twitter experience, visit https://twitter.com on your device or desktop," the social media giant tweeted. This is said to be the result of the dismal feedback which users gave
since these Twitter apps don’t allow them to tweet from their own account or fully interact with the whole Twittersphere in general, reported The Verge. However, a report by Tech Crunch said
that Twitter has made this decision to kill off these apps because the micro-blogging platform needs to works towards GDPR compliance. "In addition, neither Xbox or Roku support a
standard regularly supported video player, which made them more difficult to maintain. That also came into play with this decision," the report added. While Twitter for tvOS (Apple TV)
as well as Twitter for Amazon Fire TV will still continue to be available, as compared to other TV apps such as Netflix, Twitter has been lacking on the "exclusive video content"
front.
