The Birmingham VA Health Care System joined VA facilities across the country on May 21 to host its 15th Annual VA2K Walk & Roll—a nationwide event aimed at promoting employee wellness

and raising awareness for homeless Veterans. The Birmingham VA2K drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 175 participants, including Veterans, VA employees, community partners, and even a

local DJ, bringing music and momentum to the two-kilometer stroll. This year’s national VA2K theme, “Boots on the Ground & Serving our Veterans,” resonated deeply in Birmingham, where

participants stepped up in more ways than one. In addition to walking, many brought in-kind donations such as backpacks, personal hygiene items, new undergarments, household goods, and bus

passes—items that directly support Veterans in crisis and those transitioning out of homelessness. In total, the Birmingham VA collected more than $1,300 worth of donated goods during the

event and a small amount of cash. The generosity and commitment on display reflect the ongoing dedication of our VA workforce and local community to the mission of ending Veteran

homelessness. Held simultaneously at approximately 200 VA locations nationwide, the VA2K continues to be a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when wellness and purpose come

together. Want to get involved? Contact us at 205-933-4396, email [email protected], or visit Volunteer or Donate | VA Birmingham Health Care.
