Congratulations to Stacy Douglas, RN, the latest recipient of the DAISY Award at the Birmingham VA Health Care System. Stacy was nominated by a Veteran who described her as “the most caring

and helpful person that I have ever been a patient of.”  After receiving difficult news about his diagnosis, the Veteran noted that Stacy was a constant source of comfort—not only to him,

but also to his family. “She took time to talk and comfort them too,” he wrote. “She truly went above and beyond her call of duty.” Stacy’s compassionate care and unwavering commitment to

Veterans and their families reflect the very best of VA nursing. When asked how it felt to receive the award, Stacy shared: “I have heard of the DAISY Award, but I have never known a nurse

to receive it. Truly amazed and—wow—it’s mind-blowing to be honored like this. I remember this patient well because he touched a special place in my heart. Knowing what he was going through,

and that he wrote all this about me—it’s just… wow. I don’t have the words. My daddy was a Veteran, my uncle was a Veteran. I love Veterans and what they’ve done for our country. I feel

privileged to care for them. I was called to be a nurse, and it’s truly wonderful that I get to take care of the men and women who have taken care of me.” The DAISY Award is an international

recognition honoring nurses who exemplify extraordinary clinical skill, kindness, and compassion in their care. Thank you, Stacy, for living that mission every day.
